THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to support the development and delivery of key weapon system equipment. The successful candidate will own the technical requirements, manage system verification, and collaborate with national and international stakeholders to ensure product compliance and operational effectiveness. This role requires a strong engineering background, with expertise across multiple disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and software engineering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technical Status Reporting: Regularly report the technical status and progression of assigned work packages to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Requirements Management: Develop and own technical requirements for weapon system equipment, including solution roadmaps, fitness for purpose, and obsolescence plans.
  • Equipment Solution Delivery: Deliver equipment solutions for weapon system products by working closely with both internal and external customers, including national and international Design Authorities.
  • Design and Development Support: Address mechanical and environmental constraints. Define and validate functional performance for applied applications.
  • Develop interface, power, and communication architecture definitions. Ensure compliance with electrical, bonding, grounding, and screening requirements.
  • Standards Compliance: Understand and ensure technical capability adheres to relevant commercial, military, and safety standards.
  • Ensure user interactions with platform-specific controls are optimised.
  • Verification and Validation: Develop and deliver verification and validation strategies for electrical, mechanical, software, and transversal properties of systems or subsystems, supporting system-level certification for trials or delivery.
  • Supplier Communication: Facilitate the exchange of technical information from internal or external suppliers, assessing data against requirement specifications.

SKILLS:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Project Awareness: Time, cost, and quality-conscious, with an understanding of project trade-offs and an ability to manage within these constraints.
  • Requirements Engineering: Experience in requirements development and certification engineering.
  • Engineering Lifecycle: Exposure to multiple stages of the engineering lifecycle, with an ability to anticipate and manage project needs.
  • Risk Management: Understand programme risks and apply mitigation strategies, including long-term obsolescence planning for in-service products.
  • Breadth of Knowledge: Broad engineering knowledge across several disciplines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, computing), with expertise or specialisation in at least one area.

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in systems engineering within the defence, aerospace, or related industries.
  • Familiarity with military standards and certification processes.
  • Experience with verification and validation strategies, particularly in weapon systems.
