THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a hands-on Test & Means Engineer to support development and qualification testing within the Test, Means & Laboratory organisation. The role involves planning, preparing and executing test activities, ensuring high technical quality, compliance, and safety, while contributing to continuous improvement of test processes and facilities.
This role is suited to a practical engineer with testing experience in electrical, mechanical or aerospace environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, organise and execute development and qualification testing of products and systems.
- Prepare test setups, instrumentation, rigs, risk assessments and safety documentation.
- Deliver test activities to agreed scope, schedule, quality and safety standards.
- Produce high‑quality test documentation including Test Plans, Procedures and Reports.
- Support V&V engineers in understanding test requirements and delivering compliance evidence.
- Conduct electrical, mechanical and performance testing using relevant measurement equipment.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external test houses where required.
- Maintain and support improvement of test facilities, rigs, methods and processes.
- Record, analyse and report test results, escalating issues or anomalies appropriately.
- Promote a safe working environment and positive safety culture.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Essential
- Experience in testing, validation or qualification of electrical, mechanical or electro‑mechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating test equipment, including data acquisition systems.
- Understanding of product development lifecycles (preferably aerospace or similar).
- Ability to interpret test requirements and define appropriate test methodologies.
- Experience preparing Test Plans, Procedures and Reports.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks within project timelines.
- Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
Desirable
- Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience with Dewesoft, DASYLab or LabVIEW.
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical or hydraulic systems.
- Experience working in high-reliability sectors (Aerospace, Defence, Space).
- Experience with cleanroom or controlled laboratory environments.
- Understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
